The work can be viewed as a projection, LED screen or on a TV.
A QR code is located on the work itself, the public scans QR code with phone, which directs them to an upload page which is themed for your event. They are given the option to take a photo or choose their best photo. Photos are then uploaded to a secure database.
The photo is moderated by a user-friendly app. Once a photo is approved in moderation app, the photo will be shared with the rest of the festival on a giant screen. With swift moderation the uploaded image can be on screen in under 20 seconds.
Our clever algorithm ensures recently submitted photos gain priority, so the public get instant gratification seeing their photo appear within a few seconds of submitting. Photos taken will sit in the database and can run as a slideshow of the best selfies / snaps showing off the best of what your event has to offer.
We ran this app as a proof of concept on the last night of a 10-day NZ light festival, foot traffic was low, however we had 142 interactions over 3 hours. There were many important lessons learned in that short test period which has helped us develop an algorithm for image display, short video of test interaction included in supporting image submission section of your application form.
We are still developing the code based on the trial we recently ran, but it could also be possible to use this system to run a photo competition, use as a marketing resource for your event and post best photos straight to Facebook.
